Wearing out our welcome
Since house construction began in earnest, we've enjoyed a Friday night ritual of sorts-- I feed Ally her dinner early, and when Rob arrives home from work at 5:30 we head to the house to crawl around and check out what has happened during the past week. We look forward to it all week long, especially as the construction becomes more and more like our house rather than a generic shell. Sometimes it is hard to carry Ally for the entire visit, but during our walk last night she was especially good, perhaps realizing how excited we were to see drywall in the house for the first time!
We look forward to visiting the house because life in the condo is becoming more challenging. As excited as we are to watch Ally discover running and the high pitches to which her voice may be tuned, our neighbors seem less enthralled and have taken to banging on the walls and ceiling when she gets a bit too enthusiastic. This week early in the morning we found a note attached to our door:
...there seems to be a lot of noise coming from your unit (sounds like running mostly). Unfortunately, any little sound seems to carry from unit to unit, and especially any noise on the floor. The noise has been on a daily basis, several times during the day and evening. We would greatly appreciate anything you can do to help keep the noise level down.
The note was phrased politely, and we responded in kind with apologies for the noise. We don't want to be bad neighbors. But we also can't keep Ally from moving or squealing or making noise. So we are very eager to move. The good news? We just received our settlement day: November 26. 58 days and counting.
